ORGANIC MATTER IS NOT A DECOMPOSER. THE FOOD WEB IS A LITTLE MISLEADING HERE. THE ORGANIC MATTER IS WHAT THE DECOMPOSERS ARE EATING.

REMEMBER THAT DECOMPOSING MATTER DOES NOT DISAPPEAR. IT CHANGES FORMS. DECOMPOSING MATTER LEFT ON SOIL WILL BECOME PART OF THE SOIL, GASES, AND WATER.
